A-line Dress 1967

This is the first dress that I will be working on for my summer house dress. It is a 1967 McCalls 8706 pattern.

The description of this states:

"Three section A-line dress, with center back zipper, may be made with or without long raglan sleeves. Front, gathered at top, and backs are included in neckband facing seam. Dress, with long sleeves gathering into bias self-fabric bands, has patch pockets applied on front. Sleeveless dress, with faced armholes, may have self-fabric pockets or faced neckband and lower band of contrasting fabric. Neckband and band at lower edge may be interfaced. All dresses my be underlined."

Now comes the hard parts - use of plural intentional!

1) zipper - my house dress cannot have a zipper, let alone a back zipper. I cannot have a dress that requires me to contort into double jointed-ness with a zipper in the back. That will have to go

2) which leads to material selection. If I do not use a zipper, I need a knit. Luckily cotton knit is a suggested fabric. And I don't want to make this overly complicated with underlining!

3) sizing - this one is a big problem. This pattern, unlike ones you can find today, is not graded. It is specifically sized at a Junior size 9! Clearly this will not fit as-is. Looking at the back of the pattern, the size that fits my basic measurements would be a Misses 16-18. This is going to take some work!
