When I was a kid, my mom wore house dresses all the time. In winter, they were long, long sleeved, zip front and in summer they were loose cotton and she even gardened in them. I never understood the "old lady house dress"... as a kid or even as a young adult.
Fast forward to life after my own children. I had obtained, from where I have no clue, a simple cotton madras-like summer tank dress. The dress itself was like 3 sizes too big but it was loose, had pockets, no sleeves, and was perfect for hanging around in the house during the summer (I still have this dress and still wear it). Then one summer day visiting my mother, a friend and I (with kids in tow) went to the local target and I found another wonderful summer dress - this one had a draw string waist, halter neck, buttons about 3/4 down from neck, and easy breezy light cotton. Another house dress obtained and worn in rotation with the previous one.
Fast forward to 2020 when COVID hit worldwide and everyone is home. Comfort is priority! I needed more house dresses for both summer and winter. That's when I hit my pattern stash and looked for dresses that could easily become my house dress! The 1960's had a lot of selections: tent dresses, loose pant suits, A-lines....
I pulled several from my stash of patterns and bought some new ones to convert to summer house dresses!
